My name is Sydney Ward. I am an 18 year old college student, living in Duluth Georgia. I spent most of my life in Duluth; it’s a wonderfully diverse community that I feel extremely lucky to have experienced. In 2012, I moved to Frankfurt Germany, and lived there for 5 years. There, I gained a broad worldview shaped by my experiences at an international school, interacting with people from all over the world and from varying cultures. When I returned home from Frankfurt, I attended Peachtree Ridge High School, a public high school with over three thousand students. There, I learned how to grit my teeth and get through tough situations, as well as making the decision to attend Agnes Scott College in the fall of 2020.

Through my life experiences, I gained valuable abilities that I apply every day, in my daily life and in school and work. I can work with a team in almost any situation, and I enjoy group leadership and cooperation. I intend to apply this in the future in medical school, and eventually as a forensic pathologist. Working alone is also something I consider myself proficient in; I am able to sit and study for long periods of time without losing focus.

However, like anyone, I am not without fault. I struggle with opening up and being vulnerable with other people; I consider myself a good listener rather than a good speaker. I intend to rectify this by attempting to be talkative and participate in Zoom classes, and to continue this when we move back on campus whenever possible.

These days, I’m studying Biology and Public Health from home, with lots of help from my three cats Business, Chai, and Tanner. I can’t wait to move onto campus, whenever that may be, and look forward to truly joining the Agnes Scott Community.
